CROSS CURRICULUM PRIORITIES

ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER HISTORIES AND CULTURES
ASIA AND AUSTRALIA’S ENGAGEMENT WITH ASIA
SUSTAINABILITY

Latitude Group Travel custom designs tours to link to the each of the Cross Curriculum Priorities.  These tours can also include any subject/s of the Australian Curriculum. Our expertise enables us to develop or identify specific, curriculum-linked, experiential learning activities to engage your students in active learning.

ALMOST ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!

There are endless tour options that we can offer.  We work in consultation with you to carefully craft the ultimate customised tour.  Your tour is designed around any one of your chosen Cross Curriculum Priorities, but could also include a subject or subjects if you wish. We also take into account the General Capabilities of the Australian Curriculum

SAFETY IS OUR PRIORITY

Safe and secure travel is paramount for us. Between our Managing Director and CEO alone, we have over 35 + years travel experience, in particular in worldwide, educational, student, group travel.

COMBINING SUBJECTS ON THE ONE TOUR

Our expertise allows us to organise your tour so that several subject groups, including on of the Cross Curricular Priorities, can travel together successfully.  Imagine all of your groups concurrently engaged in their own area of interest – workshop, clinic, class or themed guided tour (and more).  Combine your IB students with your mainstream curriculum and we will ensure relevant activities for both groups.  Later, enjoy sightseeing and a range of other experiences together, so the groups feel as one.  You may also consider combining year levels on one of these custom designed tours. Considering a tour in these ways will assist with economies of scale and helps meet your minimum participant number requirement.

Unconditional support every step of the way

At Latitude Group Travel, we’re here to make your travel experience enjoyable and stress free. We simplify the group travel process for you by taking care of all the details, leaving nothing to chance. From the moment you start planning your trip, we are with you every step of the way. Your experience is delivered in one seamless process and all the planning, preparation, logistics and hard work is done for you. With our knowledgeable tour directors by your side and our whole team behind you, you will have an extraordinary, safe, easy and rewarding travel experience – without any of the hassle!

CROSS CURRICULAR PRIORITIES SUBJECT ACTIVITIES

Our itineraries allow your group to take in iconic sights, combined with as many classes, workshops, themed guided tours and curriculum-linked, experiential learning activities as you wish. We ensure that academic and practical endeavours are age and experience appropriate. Our knowledge of the Cross Curricular Priorities in the Australian Curriculum, along with our consultative process, ensures that we understand the learning outcomes required.

Example experiential learning activities:

ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER HISTORIES AND CULTURES

  • Take a tour to Far North Queensland or the Northern Territory and experience many of the ways of our indigenous people.  We can organise for groups to see the rock art in the NT, led by an elder or the ceremonies and dances (corrobborees) of tribes willing to share these great experiences with you
  • Visit a school in the Northern Territory and spend some time interacting with the indigenous students – perhaps stay a few days and take classes with them or organise a football match/es
  • Visit some of the best of Aboriginal art  – take a workshop and learn this amazing technique
  • From an elder, learn some of the Dreamtime stories to understand the way information is passed down orally from generation to generation
  • Meet with an aboriginal elder to hear their perspective of the treatment that have suffered in the history of their people and our government over many years.  Have a Q & A where the group can pose questions.  Ask about how the current laws of Australia affect their people and whether there are any other groups or organisations having a positive or negative affect on their lives.  Listen and learn as much as you can.  You may wish the group to have an opportunity to meet with elders from different tribes to gauge any differing opinions
  • Understand current thinking and the current programs that are being offered to the aboriginal people by meeting an expert on the subject for a workshop and Q & A session

ASIA AND AUSTRALIA’S ENGAGEMENT WITH ASIA

  • Tour any one of the Asian countries, where DFAT condones travel, and experience the culture, daily life, history and religious beliefs of the country and its people
  • Through workshops and interaction with experts learn about the  country’s economic, strategic, political and cultural values and actions and its relationship with Australia
  • Visit the parliament of that country (non-communist) to see how it operates and learn the differences between their government and ours
  • Visit major historic sites and undertake a Latitude Group Travel developed project to understand more about the country’s history
  • Understand the major religions of the country and how these beliefs affect decisions made in the people’s every day lives, through visits to relevant religious buildings, meeting senior representatives of the religion and interaction with representatives of the normal population.
  • Prior to your visit, you may wish to use one of our projects to assist in studying, from an Australian perspective, the relevant values and actions of that country and how they affect us.
  • Your group may also wish to visit a school to learn the differences between their schools and ours

SUSTAINABILITY

  • Sustainability may be studied in Australia or overseas, through a tour and itinerary filled with fieldwork
  • Visit a national park and, with a ranger led tour, understand how the park is managed for sustainability and how the park management tries to maintain indigenous flora and fauna in the park
  • Tour a sustainable development project to learn the techniques used to build sustainable buildings and surrounds
  • Visit a developing city and review how the city and its residents are responding to the challenges of sustainability, both collectively and individually, to determine how well the city is likely handle sustainability and livability in the future
  • Perhaps tour one of the Asian countries and combine studies of Sustainability with Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia.  This could involve a study of the urbanisation of the country and how it is coping with the sustainability challenges it faces as a result of that urbanisation.  There are also many other options to combine the two Cross Curricular Priorities

OPEN THEIR EYES TO A WORLD OF POSSIBILITY

We’re committed to helping teachers and their students bring the Cross Curricular Priorities to life, by creating memorable and unique experiences.

Whether the focus is on studies of Asia and Australia’s Engagement with Asia, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders Histories and Culture or Sustainability, our intent is to engage the students in active learning of each priority.  Understanding a belief, a culture, and the history of a country, or even political and economic actions they take, often takes getting up-close and personal, so our activities will allow your group to meet and hear from those whom you wish to understand. Tours and experiences within the countries, cultures or religions that are the focus of your studies will ensure that your students will come back having created meaningful relationships and with a clear understanding of what has been studied in workshops and other experiential learning activities.

Understanding Sustainability is all about fieldwork and being on the spot to investigate, so experiential learning is perfect for conducting sustainability studies or making specific observations.
