“Writing is perhaps the greatest of human inventions, binding together people who never knew each other, citizens of distant epochs.”

ENGLISH LITERATURE INTERNATIONAL TOURS

At Latitude Group Travel, we bring Literature off the page and into real life!

Our English Literature tours take students beyond the classroom and into the worlds of the authors and characters they study. Designed to support your curriculum, these tours help students explore how literature reflects and shapes cultures, identities and perspectives. Whether you’re planning literature tours within Australia or further afield in the UK and beyond, each experience encourages critical thinking, analysis of language and literary techniques, and personal response to texts, deepening students’ understanding of both the works and the contexts in which they were created.

English Literature school trips tailored for you

We organise literary tours in Australia, the UK and beyond that are practical and tailored to your curriculum. Whether you’re focusing on key texts, particular authors or developing students’ writing and analysis skills, we’ll work with you to create a tour that supports your learning goals. Students build skills in close reading, critical thinking, comparative analysis and understanding how cultural, historical and personal perspectives shape meaning, all central to both the Australian Curriculum and IB English.

A tour adds something special. Students can visit the homes and landscapes that inspired writers like Shakespeare, Austen and Dickens, experience live performances at the Globe Theatre, and take part in workshops with leading literary organisations. This real-world connection to authors and their historical settings can deepen students’ understanding of texts and help them interpret literature in a broader context.

You can choose to focus on a single text or your full year’s reading list. During the tour, students learn in small groups through workshops, guided tours and themed classes, while still travelling and exploring as a group. It’s also easy to combine English Literature with subjects like Art or History, creating cross-curricular experiences that can help meet minimum group numbers and make the tour more rewarding.

With more than 35 years of experience in student group travel, safety is always our priority. We handle the logistics, so you can focus on teaching and supporting your students as they develop their skills without the added workload of managing the trip.

ENGLISH LITERATURE SUBJECT ACTIVITIES

Our itineraries allow your group to take in iconic sights, combined with as many classes, workshops, themed guided tours and curriculum-linked, experiential learning activities as you wish. We ensure that academic and practical endeavours are age and experience appropriate. Our knowledge of the curriculum (state, national and International Baccalaureate, along with any other curriculum you may teach) and our consultative process, ensures that we understand the learning outcomes required.

Example experiential learning activities:
  • Walk in the footsteps of the author of one of the required books. This aids in understanding how their life impacted their writing. Visit where they lived, wrote, vacationed and places of significance in their life
  • Experience the time and location in which the book is set, in order to better understand what affects the main character that is time and location specific. By understanding the politics, economics and other major issues at that time, the student can begin to understand more of how the author’s character/s behaved in relation to changeable and unchangeable situations
  • Undertake a Q & A session with an expert on the author
  • Take a literary workshop based on a particular text you are studying
  • Undertake a workshop on composition or on writing structure and styles, comparing one style with another
  • See a play or film based on the author’s text to assist in understanding a different approach to the story
  • Create your own story and select a random group to read it, with the intention of giving you feedback. Conduct surveys with the individuals in the group to gain insights into different ways an audience can react to the same story
  • This pictorial workshop explores character development, narrative structure and cause and effect
  • Take a relevant workshop at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre
