NASA SPACE CAMP USA TOURS
If you are currently considering an overseas Space Camp for your students, you may be a bit overwhelmed with all the choices. Perhaps you have already been and are looking for another idea? We custom design Space Camp trips and other innovative STEM based program for many Australian schools each year and keep abreast of developments and innovations all over the USA.
Space Camp Huntsville, AL – Advanced Space Academy
Probably the most well-known of all the space camps, the Advanced Space Academy® 5 day program explores university and career preparation through an immersive experience in science, technology, engineering and math. Trainees undergo a variety of astronaut training exercises, engineering challenges, and team-building activities, all culminating in an extended-duration simulated space mission. Highlights include the 1/6th Gravity Chair, the Area 51 Challenge Course, experiencing neutral buoyancy, build a Rover, fly jet aircraft simulators and heaps more! Prepare for every contingency as you go to Mars on an extended-duration mission simulation!
Kennedy Space Centre, Cape Canaveral, Florida
Unlike the Huntsville program, this Space Camp allows flexibility in a 5 day program, 3 day program and even hour long programs. The 5 day Space Camp program includes the Astronaut Training Experience (mission simulation including launching, landing and walking on Mars), the Mars Base 1 program (travel to Mars and work through the challenges of living on the Martian surface including a spacewalk in a microgravity experience), hearing from an Astronaut and a team Engineering Design Process challenge. Minimum of 24 students aged 10 -17. Close proximity to Orlando with its vast array of activities is a huge advantage here.
Space Centre Houston – Space Centre University, Texas
Space Center U is a challenging five-day program offered year-round and is the gate-way to the Johnson Space Centre. The program here focuses on teamwork, problem solving, communication and engineering solutions to real-life space related situations. Students will discover areas such as robotics, rocketry, thermal protection systems and space habitats and go behind-the-scenes at NASA Johnson Space Centre and the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory, the world’s largest underwater training facility.
Looking for something a bit different? Spend three days on a Simulated Aircraft Carrier
Students can participant in a three day “cruise” program aboard the world’s largest simulated aircraft carrier. Through an established base of knowledge, students will work in a team squadron format to collaborate and complete missions. The Academy builds heart-pumping, adrenaline-filled story line, which brings life to the mission as if the students are in a real-world scenario. Students apply these skills by flying the high-performance X-12 Triad, the Academy’s experimental aircraft, offering them hands-on comprehension of the principles of flight thrust, hovering and target drops. An alternative to heading overseas is to encourage students to participate in one of the Mission Discovery Programs around Australia. Bringing a NASA astronaut and team to Australia for a 5 day Space and STEM school holiday program is a great alternative to heading overseas – any much cheaper! Student work in groups to design experiments for space with the winning team’s experiment being launched into space and tested aboard the International Space Station.
